Koine Project

Koine Project was born out of a desire to craft a new musical vernacular by combining the most riveting aspects of art music and popular culture. Koine, meaning “common”, refers to the form of the Greek language that became the lingua franca (common language) of the Mediterranean world in the first few centuries AD, and reflects the idea of music as universal communication. Koine Project aims to cross boundaries, present music in a new light, make new music, and make music new.

Koine Project is Melissa Tipson-Mohr (clarinet), Eric Mohr (bassoon), Alice Hansen (violin/viola), Max Lucas (Violin), Christina Willatt (voice, keyboards), Susanne Murphy (keyboards), and Tomas Bouda (bass). They come from a variety of backgrounds, including composition, classical music, electronic music and church music.
