Kate Stanley is associate professor in the department of English & Writing Studies at Western University, where she works on American literature, climate, and culture. Her first book, published in 2018, is Practices of Surprise in American Literature After Emerson and her writing on modernist art and literature, pragmatist philosophy, aesthetic education, and more has appeared in PMLA, American Literary History, Criticism, and the Los Angeles Review of Books, among other publications. She is currently at work on a SSHRC-supported project about confronting the climate crisis in the humanities classroom.
